The best way to follow a dream is not to think of what you want your business to be, but what your ideal life will be like because of your business. Instead of thinking about the services you'll offer, the decor of your spa or treatment room, or the products you'll carry, think about your personality, your workload tolerance, your patience, how much time you want to devote from your life to the business, how quickly you'll need to make money, and much more.
The better prepared you are for the realities of operating a solo practice the better your chances of succeeding with it. Talk to those who have done this ahead of you to get a more realistic picture of the road you hope to follow. This isn't intended to discourage anyone from starting a business but, as they warn about setting out on a strenuous hike, carry plenty of water and an accurate map.
